DATE: Tuesday, June 20, 2023
TIME: 9-5 pm MT
LOCATION: Global Lounge, 3085 N. Cole Rd., Ste. #201, Boise, Idaho 83704
The Boise Musician Changemaker Accelerator (BMCA) Workshop - a full-day incubator for Boise-based musicians - launches on Tuesday, June 20th at Global Lounge in collaboration with local nonprofits Boise Hive, Global Lounge, Treefort Music Fest and national nonprofit Music to Life. Also on board is national nonprofit Music in Common, as they launch their Boise-based Black Legacy Project. The BMCA will work with up to 20 artist changemakers who have ideas for building positive, music-driven and sustainable community programs.
The BMCA is a ‘deep-dive’ business-skills session where artists receive training in proposal development, identifying good-fit partners and mobilizing community support. BMCA also connects artists with local community advocates and industry changemakers including Workshop presenters Leta Neustaedter, Founder of Metamorphosis Performing Arts Studio LLC; Tiam Rastegar, Trailheads CEO and Executive Director; and Laura Kendall, the Morrison Center's Executive Director. Finally, BMCA pairs artists with volunteer business mentors including Treasure Valleys SCORE chapter for post-training technical assistance and program troubleshooting.
Participating artists receive a full package of benefits including: $50 stipend, complimentary breakfast and lunch, and all Accelerator training and materials (estimated value of $1K).
“Our work around the country empowers musicians to put their creative ideas for community healing into practice,” says Liz Stookey Sunde, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Music to Life. “Our goal is to help heart-driven artists collaboratively address the causes that need their attention while also sustaining themselves financially and spiritually.”
About our partners: Boise Hive prevents suicide in the music community through counseling, education, referrals, and other mental health services; Global Lounge is committed to the promotion of cultural awareness by harnessing the power and beauty of diversity for individual and community development. Treefort Music Fest creates opportunities for artists and creatives and underserved communities.
Music to Life partners with national nonprofit, Music in Common, to support the Boise launch of their Black Legacy Project, a musical celebration of Black history to advance racial solidarity, equity, and belonging taking place June 12 - 18 with free events for musicians and non-musicians alike. Music to Life's day-long intensive incubator-the Musician Changemaker Accelerator Workshop will follow on June 20th.
